Loren didn’t catch his first fish on a fly rod until he was probably 5 or 6. That was also about the same time he started tying his own flies. He tied/sold flies to help defray college expenses. He’s caught all sorts of fish - from barracuda, to carp, to bluegills, to steelhead - on a fly rod and now is after a 30" northern pike! He was a wildlife biologist for 35 years and also taught fire behavior and fire effects courses at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise. Although he admits he can hardly fry water on a kitchen stove, there’s not much he can’t cook out in the rough-and-uncut in a Dutch oven - he’s cooked in an elk hunting camp for the last 11 years. He’s been a fishing guide for 12 years and you can bet that, if he’s not guiding, he’s either wetting a line for himself or hunting.
