The
Salmon River cuts North America's 2nd deepest canyon as it flows from east to
west in Central Idaho through some of the most rugged terrain in the west. This
is the canyon that detoured Lewis and Clark 200 years ago; today it is
protected as part of the River of No Return Wilderness. The Salmon remains
undammed in its 400 mile length to join the Snake River in western Idaho. Elk,
deer, mountain sheep, eagles, moose, bear, wolves, cougar, mountain goats,
coyotes and many species of fish flourish within this relatively untouched
ecosystem.
